Xiang-Bin PAN, the director of structural heart disease center of Fu Wai hospital of China (National center of cardiovascular diseases), who is a hybrid cardiac physician, holds open heart surgery and percutaneous procedure licenses. He has invented the Percutaneous and Non-fluoroscopical Procedure (PAN procedure), which is a novel percutaneous interventional therapy guided by ultrasound instead of X-ray to win the WHO innovation award in 2022. PAN procedure provides patients a safer, more accessible and affordable treatment, without general anesthesia, open heart surgery, iatrogenic radiation or contrast agent damage. Also, it protects patients and medical staff from iatrogenic injury caused by radiation and contrast agents and expands procedure indications for pregnant or renal insufficient patients. It produces less reliable on medical apparatus to be feasible for the treatment of common structural heart disease in the outpatient setting or rural area; reduces the technical difficulties by inventing ultrasound guided special instrument (40 patents) to save more lives. Currently, there are 11 invented medical instruments authorized by China and Europe to be used in more than 40 countries. Particularly, the fully bioabsorbable occluder becomes the milestone of no residual era for structure heart diseases. Professor Pan has been invited by 23 countries including France、Thailand、Japan、Malaysia、Philippines、Indonesia、Kazakhstan etc. to provide on-site live demos. As a tutor in the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, professor Pan has trained lots of students from the Germany, Japan, Russia, Australia, Uzbekistan, Tanzania and more than 30 countries over 400 medical institutions. His work has been highly praised that he has been elected as a foreign expert of top academic associations, such as STS, ACC, ESC and SCAI.
