Professor Yun Zhang graduated from Shandong Medical College in 1976, received his Master of Medicine degree from the same college in 1981 and received his Ph.D. degree from University of Oslo, Norway in 1985. He is currently Professor of Medicine, Chairman of Department of Cardiology, Shandong University Qilu Hospital; Director of the Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Remodeling and Function Research, Chinese Ministry of Education and Chinese Ministry of Health; Dean of Shandong University School of Medicine and Vice President of Shandong University. He serves as the member of the international editorial board of JACC-Cardiovascular Imaging, Heart, European Journal of Echocardiography and Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology. He is the current President of the Chinese Society of Ultrasound in Medicine, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Cardiology and Vice President of the Chinese College of Cardiology. As a principal investigator, he has led more than 50 research projects in the field of arteriosclerosis and heart failure, and authored or co-authored more than 900 articles published in peer-reviewed journals (such as Lancet, Circulation, Pharmacol Rev, J Am Coll Cardiol, Proc Natl Acad Sci USA, Diabetes, Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol and Eur Heart J) and 34 textbooks in cardiovascular medicine, which have been cited for more than 3000 times in the literature. He has received more than 40 prizes for his research achievements awarded by the Chinese government, and received more than 20 international and national honorary awards. He was elected a Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2001 and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology in 2008.
