Michael A. Chen is an Assistant Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at the University of Washington. A graduate of Haverford College, he received M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan. (His doctoral research focused on how age and gender influence patient-physician interaction). He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Washington where he also completed fellowships in Geriatric Medicine and Cardiology prior to joining the faculty in 2005. He is interested in the intersection of Geriatrics and Cardiology, psychosocial influences on cardiovascular health and disease, and in particular heart failure in the elderly. He is an active member of the American College of Cardiology and is a member of the Cardiovascular Disease in Older Populations Committee, part of the Council of Clinical Cardiology, American Heart Association. Dr. Chen spends most of his time as a clinician and teacher (of Medical Students, Residents and Cardiology and Geriatrics Fellows). He attends on the inpatient Cardiology (CCU) service, the General Cardiology Consultation service as well as in the cardiac catheterization and echocardiography laboratories. He is directory of the Cardiology Clinic at Harborview Medical Center (a part of the University of Washington) and also has his own “Geriatric Cardiology” clinic.
